Portable RC Radio Control Car Tracks

We race our XMODS on interlocking foam XMODS tracks that we make ourselves.  They can be configured many ways for Road Course, Oval, Open Arena and even Figure 8.  We’ve experimented with different widths of standard, medium and wide.  Read more below.  We just tested out our new XMODS EVO with our latest XMODS track tri-oval and it works great.  The new lower clearance on the XMODS EVO is not problem for our XMODS tracks.

**UPDATE** - We have our eye on some new materials that could greatly cut the cost of building our own XMODS and Mini-Z tracks.  We’ll keep you posted on what we learn.

NOW AVAILABLE – You can learn how to build your own Portable RC Car Track and save a lot of money over buying one.

Medium Lane

Our Medium width version with 30” lane width supplements our 20” and 43” width RC track versions.  This is a nice compromise between the technical standard tracks and the easy to drive wide version tracks.

This one has 20” wide lanes.  This is challenging for beginners but is easier in its oval configuration.  If you watch the video you can see that Dad can handle the road course quite nicely.  My 10 year old son is very good at it too, but the 6 and 7 yr old kids have a little more trouble.  Oddly enough they love it anyway.  This track can be configured several ways.   Figure 8, Squared Oval, Long Skinny Oval, and at least two road course configurations.

We’ve added on to this one extensively.  It offers the most versatility in a small space.  Plus it’s a little cheaper than the others to build as it takes less material. (Tracks shown in photo measure about 8’ x 10’).

Wide Lane

We used this wide lane at a local church carnival.  It is great for beginners as it provides lots of room.  We originally had it configured as an oval and then switched over to a “L” shape.  They liked the oval, but loved the “L”.

It’s surprising to see the differing skill levels of people who drive.  You would think in this computer game age we live in that people would catch right on, but many have a difficult time.  Others really do well.  Some times it’s the 10 year old girl that does better than the mid-teens boy.  Track shown in photo measures 10’ x 12’ and has 43” wide lanes.  Be sure to watch the video!

Figure 8/Oval/Bash Arena/Crazy Donut

Watch the video “Perfect Track” (Broadband  17.8 mb) or (DialUp 3.0 mb )

We’ve had a lot of fun with this one!  We can make it into 4 different tracks.  When we feel like racing we run the Oval.  When we want a more technical course with lots of thrills we run the Figure 8.  We use the Crazy Donut to battle each other.  The object is to go in circles and try to spin out the car in front of you by using your bumper.  Great fun!  The Bash Arena just lets us roam around freely.  We can throw some Wiffel balls in there and knock them around with the cars.  One of these days we’ll try a game of XMODS Soccer.

This track measures approx. 6’ x 10’ and has 30” wide lanes.    Check out the video!
