Material: Elopar Foam

Motor:  Speed 400

Battery: 1350 3 Cell LiPoly

Comments:  I love this plane!  It flies so smooth and easy.  This has great potential as a video platform.  Brushless power is on the way too.  Can’t wait!

Speedwing 250 MKII

Wingspan: 24”

Material: Foam

Motor:  Johnson 250

Battery: 1200 2 Cell LiPoly

Prop: 4x4

Built: July 07

Comments:  Makes a great flying paintball target!  I really like the one finger launch.  I really DON’T like the battery hanging under the belly.  I beat it up pretty bad balancing out the wing.  I’ll not get another one of these.  Status:  Soon to be retired due to exposed battery & paintball damage J

Micro Speedwing

Wingspan: 17”

Material: Foam

Motor:  IPS

Battery: 340 2 Cell LiPoly

Prop: 3x2 or 3x3

Built: October 04

Comments:  Small and quick.  A handful in the wind, but it will fly in it.  On a calm day turn down the rates and it’s nice and smooth.  I really like this little one.  Tons of go anywhere fun!  Retired – It finally started falling apart.

Micro FFF Wing

Wingspan: 17 inches

Material: Blue Fan Fold Foam

Motor:  ?

Battery: 700 2 Cell LiPoly

Prop: 3x2

Built: September 04

Comments:  It flew o.k., but Rx failure brought it to an early demise.  I’ll definitely try this one again.  It handled a stiff breeze and also floated nicely.

Mini Zagnutz – MZN 50%+3

Wingspan: 26 inches

Material: Blue Fan Fold Foam

Motor:  AE Johnson 250

Battery: 1500 2 Cell LiPoly

Prop: 3x3, 4x2.5, 4x4

Built: August 04

Comments:  Another in the MZN line.  This plane will slow way down or get up and go.  It handles wind nicely.   I just can’t be without a MZN! Status: Preparing to rebuild.

Styrojet

Wingspan: 35 inches

Material: Styrofoam

Motor:  Twin AE Johnson 250s

Battery: 2000 2 Cell LiPoly

Prop: 3x2

Comments:  Silky smooth and handles light wind.  Watch the videos.   Kids toy glider converted to RC. Status: Recently rebuilt.  The wires are tucked in better.  Flies as good as ever!

Zagnutz

Wingspan: 52 inches

Material: Blue Fan Fold Foam

Motor:  Speed 400

Battery: 1800 Nimh

Prop: 6x4

Built: April 04

Comments:  A very smooth flyer, easy to build and control.  This should make a good video plane.  Feels like a big, lumbering mother ship, but gets around the sky.  Handles moderate wind.  Later cut down to 40 inches. Retired.

Parkflyer Pete

Wingspan: 32 inches

Material: Blue Fan Fold Foam

Motor:  ?

Battery: 2 cell 700 li-poly

Prop: 8x6

Built: April 04

Comments:  Painted with RC car paint.  Has not been flown enough at this time to evaluate.  Retired after being shot down by my kids.  Watch the video on the Videos page. Retired.

Mini Zagutz – MZN 50%+2

Wingspan: 26 inches

Material: Blue Fan Fold Foam

Motor:  AE J250

Battery: 2 cell 2070 Kokum li-poly

Prop: 3x2, 3x3 or 4x2.5

Built: February 04

Comments:  Covered in Solite, my daughter added the flames with some Sharpie markers.  Elevons are balsa, winglets are milk jugs.  Bamboo skewer in nose for strength.  Flies in wind and has plenty of power.  My new favorite plane.  Retired due to receiver failure.

Mini Zagutz – MZN 50%+1

Wingspan: 26 inches

Material: Blue Fan Fold Foam

Motor:  AE J250

Battery: 2 cell 1500 Kokum li-poly

Prop: 3x2 or 3x3

Built: Nov 03

Comments:  My first successful scratch build.  Built slightly crooked, the elevons don’t line up for straight and level flight.  This baby flies wonderfully, handles wind anyway.  Retired to build another plane.

GWS Tigermoth

Comments:  If I had it to do over again this would have been my first plane.  I think my first flight attempts would have been much more successful with this rather than the Wingo.  Very slow and docile, a great dusk flyer.  Before the MNZ 50%+1, this was my favorite.  It’s getting pretty beat up as my kids shoot at it with their foam rockets.

Pocket Combat Wing

Comments:  At 18 inches, it’s the smallest wing I’ve had.  It is tough, but I knocked the stuffing out of it learning to fly it.  I’d build it again, but want to experiment with other wings.

Firebird XL

Comments:  After my failed attempts with the Wingo (see below) I took a step back to a 2 channel airplane.  This is a very nice flyer and I couldn’t be any happier with it.  I later gave this away to my nephew.  This picture shows how the video camera was mounted.  Early videos on the video page were made with this.

Wingo

Comments:  My first plane.  It would have been much more successful for me had I tried the ROG take off rather than the hand launch.  You can read about my beginner experience with it on the Wingo page.  By the time I actually got a good take off and flight, it was pretty beat up and heavily laden with epoxy.  Retired.

Megatech Exec Diversion

Comments:  I shouldn’t have bought this one.  It sits in the box.  I gave this to a very deserving young man at my church.

It does fly pretty well, but it’s just not satisfying given all of the other great airplanes I have.

Glider Fleet

Comments:  These are for the kids (and dad).  We stumbled on this idea one day and really have had a lot of fun with them.  The kids and I set up a small assembly line in the garage to crank these out.  We gave away over 30 of them to the kids at Sunday school.  They decorated them with WWJD and other stickers and had a blast in the church parking lot.

Read more about these in the Free Flight FFF Glider section.

Glider Jet

Comments:  Plans for this one were provided by a kind user from RCGroups.

Slowstick: This is my Aerial Photography plane.  It’s powered by 3 cell 1800 Li-poly and MiniAC brushless.  This is one fine plane for AP.  Still going strong for AP.

Not Shown

Zagi:  While this is a good flying plane, I consider it a disappointment.  It just always feels under powered, especially after flying the MZN50%+1.  People recommend brushless motors for this, but that’s a good deal of money.  I’ll build a Zagnutz to replace it.  RETIRED
